Being negative is a kind of defence mechanism, it means you are alerted to danger, those who recognise trauma as a familier state can be negative because they are constantly 'on the look out' for hidden danger, thus they can forsee things before others who might be more positive about things, less anxious but more likely to get eaten in the jungle.
